Country Star Garth Brooks Faces Sexual Assault and Battery Lawsuit from Former Hair and Makeup Artist
Country music legend Garth Brooks is facing serious allegations of sexual assault and battery in a newly filed lawsuit by a woman identified as Jane Roe, who claims she worked as a hairstylist and makeup artist for the award-winning singer.
The lawsuit, filed in California state court on Thursday and obtained by CNN, alleges that the incidents occurred in 2019, with Roe accusing Brooks of rape during a work-related trip. Roe began working with Brooks in 2017, after initially being hired to provide hair and makeup services for his wife, Trisha Yearwood, in 1999.
In a statement to CNN, Brooks addressed the allegations, stating, “For the last two months, I’ve faced endless threats, lies, and demands to pay millions in hush money. No amount of hush money can make me admit to actions I am incapable of — horrific acts no human should commit.” Brooks also revealed that he had already filed a defamation and extortion lawsuit against Roe nearly a month prior, under the pseudonym John Doe, to protect the privacy of both families.
Before Roe’s filing, Brooks had tried to prevent her from publicly repeating her allegations, as outlined in his earlier lawsuit. However, the new complaint provides more disturbing details, accusing Brooks of repeatedly exposing himself, making sexual advances, and even sending sexually explicit texts to Roe during her time working for him.
One incident detailed in the lawsuit occurred at Brooks' home in 2019, where Roe alleges the singer walked out of the shower naked and forced her to touch his genitals while speaking in vulgar, sexually explicit language. Another key allegation involves a work trip to Los Angeles in May 2019, where Roe claims Brooks raped her in a hotel room during a Grammy tribute performance.
Roe's lawsuit also states that after the alleged rape, Brooks continued to share his sexual fantasies with her and made inappropriate physical advances, including remarks about a potential threesome with his wife.
In response, Brooks' legal team has fiercely denied the allegations, calling them false and damaging to his reputation. They argue that Roe’s lawsuit is an attempt at extortion, noting that Roe initially requested a salaried position and medical benefits before threatening to make her accusations public.
Roe's attorneys, however, maintain that Brooks' attempts to silence their client through legal action are acts of intimidation. They expressed confidence that Brooks will be held accountable and praised their client for her bravery in coming forward with the lawsuit.
As the case unfolds, the spotlight remains on the country music world, demonstrating that issues of sexual misconduct are not limited to Hollywood or the corporate world, but also exist within the realm of country music.
